Who We Are

Serene Strides is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit equine-assisted retreat center dedicated to strengthening emotional well-being through evidence-informed programs rooted in connection, nature, and the healing presence of horses. We serve individuals, families, and community groups through guided workshops and retreats designed to build resilience, self-awareness, and lasting support systems. Through scholarships and community partnerships, we work to ensure these transformative experiences remain accessible to those who need them most.

Gina Muse, Board President

Gina Muse, MSW

Board President

Gina Muse is a social worker, faculty member, manager, and horsewoman. She believes that nature and horses can assist people in improving their quality of life. Gina is certified as an Equine-Assisted Mental Health Practitioner through Denver University. 


Susan Roll, MSW, PhD

Board Secretary

Susan Roll is a social worker, researcher, and served as the Chair of the School of Social Work as well as the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at Chico State University. She loves animals and being outside in nature. She is a big fan of Chelsea and Gina and is excited to be part of creating Serene Strides.


Lyndee Buttery, MSW

Board Curriculum Advisor

Lyndee Buttery is a social worker, horsewoman, and the Director of Facilitation and Equine Protocols at Flying Horse Foundation. She has a background in foster care, adoption, crisis pregnancy counseling, and equine-assisted services. Lyndee is passionate about blending therapeutic human services with welfare-based equine management, and equipping others to do so as well. Lyndee is certified as an Equine-Assisted Mental Health Practitioner through Denver University.


Chelsea Cornell, MSW, ACSW

Board Treasurer

Chelsea Cornell is a social worker and horsewoman, with decades of experience working families and individuals. She has experience in child welfare, training, teaching, consulting and equine assisted services. She believes in the power of connection and relationship, including the healing power of nature and human and animal connection. Chelsea is certified as an Equine-Assisted Mental Health Practitioner through Denver University.


Carrie Ferchaud

Board Advisor

Carrie Ferchaud is a proud Tehama County native, a devoted mom, and a passionate leader who believes that the greatest investment any community can make is in its people. As Executive Director of the Job Training Center, she has spent over 20 years creating opportunities that help individuals grow into strong contributors that help strengthen our local businesses and the broader workforce. Carrie brings that same dedication to her role on the board of Serene Strides, championing programs that foster healing, growth, and connection through the transformative bond between people and horses. She lives in Tehama County with her college sweetheart, Joshua, and their two young children, Lucas and Emma, carrying a lifelong belief that compassion, guidance, and opportunity can change lives.
